  • A person should not only have adequate food, clothing, and shelter, but also positive experiences with purposeful activity, in a clean, safe environment to facilitate and support their continued growth and development.
  • A person needs privacy and a sense of personal belonging to develop a sense of integrity and identity, and individual identity should be respected.
  • A person has a right to maintain adequate contact with people of importance in their life and in their community and to participate in community activities at the highest level possible.
  • A person has a right to make their own choices and control their decisions, environment, and destiny, to the best of their ability.
  • A person has a right to being given alternatives to enhance their experiences, knowledge, and skills so they have the opportunity to continue to grow.
