- The encryption process is based on an email address (sending or receiving, it doesn’t matter) security keys are created from the address. Your email address is considered a CRES account.
- The message itself doesn’t leave our system, the Cisco Registered Envelope Service (CRES) only handles processing of authentication keys and accounts.
- If nothing here makes sense just realize standard email is considered the same as sending a postcard via postal mail (the messenger can read it, not that this happens with email a lot, just that it could). This system hides the message so only another email address (CRES Account) can read it once they have set up their account.
- Encrypted information in the message is retrieved via a web page, not in Outlook. The original message sent is really just an alert that there is an encrypted message waiting.
